I want to give you update after the new country South Sudan freedom day celebration.
All Nazarene prayed and God answered our/your prayer. Praise God. Yesterday the Republic of South Sudan freedom day celebration was done peacefully. Nazarenes gathered in different location, place and time for prayer for the last six month. Today on our Sunday worship we want to praise God for His goodness.
For more than 10 million South Suddenness, it was a momentous and emotional day. As we know that last January, South Suddenness voted in historic referendum to separate from the rest of Sudan. That was done peacefully. After two decades of bitter civil war the world is due to witness the birth of new nation, Republic of South Sudan, yesterday on Saturday July 09, 2011 with tens of thousands of exiled southern Sudanese flocking home to celebrate the long waited North-South divorce and looking how to build and develop the new country. As a church for the last 9 years we try to work out closely how to face the challenges for our future ministry.
This morning on our Sunday worship service preparation we are asking continues praying to the people and new nation and hoping that the South Sudan ministers must reach out people to Jesus Christ through holiness message. It must find strength in diversity and build God’s Kingdom that represent the Christian church in the communities. We want to encourage people and new nation that they should depend on God and His Holy Spirit. The country and the Sudan people were in big challenge and conflict for many years. So, as church leaders we urge all South Sudanese and Nazarenes to get involved in building their new nation after independence depending on God, and His power only, and we insist that only hard work will bring development to South Sudan.
Yes, independence would bring new challenges for the Church of the Nazarene in the Sudan, including providing adequate local leadership development to the Church growth and Church multiplication.
So, we need your prayer and partnership in this first historical Sunday worship service after freedom celebration.
Many blessings to you and your ministry.

Pastor Ermias Mekuria Choliye
Horn of Africa Field Strategy Coordinator
www.hoanazarene.org or www.africanazarene.org

Dear Friends, Family members and Partners,

New Year greetings and Merry Christmas to all of you from the land of Kush, horn of Africa.

The horn of Africa leadership wish this Christmas be blessed one and continue to be blessed in this Year 2012. As most of you know that we celebrate two Christmas celebrations (December and January) in the Kush land, horn of Africa.

The Scripture in the New Testament Act 8 describes about the Kush man. The Philip the Evangelist was told by an angel to go to the road from Jerusalem to Gaza, and there he met the Kush man, Ethiopian eunuch. The Kush man had been to Jerusalem to worship (Acts 8:27), and was returning Kush land. The Kush man was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah, and had come to Isaiah 53:7-8. Philip the Evangelist asked the Kush man "Do you understand what you are reading?" He said he did not, and asked Philip to explain the text to him. Philip told him the Good News about Jesus the Savior and the Kush man asked to be baptized. They went down into some water and Philip baptized him. Since that time (34 A.D) Christianity spread across horn of Africa.

We serve our savior Jesus Christ in the total population of over 150 million of the Kush land. In the Kush land there are many challenges and problems. From the total population of the 150 million Kush land, 60% Islam, 25% Traditional (Orthodox) Christian, 10% Africa Traditional Religion & 5% Protestant Christians. We committed ourselves to reach un reached village and people group. Currently the Church of the Nazarene highly evolved in house church planting movement and zone pastors train centers with local districts /zonal churches.
We want to thank all of you for your encouragements, support and prayer. We highly appreciate your horn of Africa relief support, help and partnership in the Kingdom expansion. Many lives saved through your relief funds. Because of your prayer, help and support many thousand souls saved and come to Christ. We need your continues partnership and support.

We had many leadership challenges, and resistances; we need your partnership in prayer. And asking all of you to continue praying for the new country South Sudan and its people. The church in South Sudan also struggling with many problems.

Thank you very much, wishes you a blessing year.

Ermias & Mulu Mekuria and
boys(Nathanael, Estifanos & Abeselom)
Church of the Nazarene, Horn of Africa Field,
www.hoanazarene.org
Dear HOA Field Mission team, Partners and Prayer Family members.

Greetings to you in the wonderful name of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. During this holiday season it is exciting to write this
message to give you an update of what is going on with our Horn of
Africa field ministry.

Our heavenly Father God is rich in His forgiveness and grace. He kept
us in His love and protection as we have been out and around our area
serving Him and His people.
The Church of the Nazarene ministry in the horn of Africa is
active—especially in the districts, zones and house churches. Pastors,
zone and district leaders along with the mission department are
working hard to reach unreached people in the remote villages and
towns. Many new converts have come to Christ and joined His Kingdom
throughout the year. It is wonderful to witness new converts worship
God and sing songs about how their lives have been changed through His
love and kindness.

In 2010 we dealt with great persecution and many leadership
challenges, but God gave us strength to have more than 3,000 pastors
and lay ministers registered in our extension pastoral training
program, CLI (Creative Leadership Institute). We have over 80
extension training centers and more than 25 languages are used in our
Area, District, Zone and Local Sunday worship services. Our Radio
program broadcasts 3 cultural and language group holiness messages
every week to 150 Million people around the Northeast Africa. We are
on the translation of our holiness books and training materials in 4
major language group of the field. But that is not all. Many new
converts are being trained in our local discipleship classes. Praise
be to the Lord.

I want to assure you that all this success is because of your prayer,
encouragement and support. Do not underestimate your participation in
this ministry. We certainly do not. Because of your prayer, support
and our leadership efforts, God continues to give us great success.
The persecution, trouble, violence and false accusation by the devil
and his minions will not destroy us and God's witness around us. God
keeps us safe through it all. Praise to the Lord.

Psalm 119: 71
“ It was good for me to be afflicted, so that I might learn your
decrees.”(NIV). The persecutions, accusation and leadership challenge
in field districts helped us to understand God’s mighty hand and His
grace and love in us. Praise the Lord.

In the coming year, we are ready to implement our 5 year strategic
plan and every districts and Area departments in the field set up
their own 5 year tactical plans in their contexts.
On this challenging ministry service, we, (Mulu and I) have great
responsibility to implement our strategic plans and priorities. We
decided to devote to continue traveling different part of our field
areas and districts to conduct leadership trainings and holiness
conferences of the districts. So, we need your continues support and
prayer in our ministry.

And this next year, we will be missionary and leadership transitions –

Revs. Terry and Diane Barker moved from Horn of Africa mission field
into pastoral leadership in Indiana, USA. The Barkers started their
new assignment this December, but will continue to work with us to
provide leadership through the transition to a new family who will
join the Horn of Africa field in 2011. We are pleased to welcome Rev.
David Johnson and his wife, Lisa along with their two daughters. Rev.
Johnson and his family will replace the Barkers assignment in the Horn
of Africa. We need your prayer for the Barkers and Johnson’s new
assignments.

Revs. Aweis and LeCrecia Ali moved from the Horn of Africa field to a
new mission field in Africa this month. They mentored Rev. Ali Muhudin
and Rev. Muhudin replaced Rev. Aweis as Area 3 mission coordinator.
Aweis and LeCrecia’s assignment is still in Creative Access Countries
in Africa. We need your prayer for the Ali family and Rev. Ali Muhudin
for protection and wisdom of new mission assignment.

Also, we need your continued prayer for Rev. John Yual and his
country, Sudan. There is great tension in the districts, because of
the coming referendum. The referendum will be on January 9, 2011.
Without God intervening there will be war and persecution. But thanks
be to God, no matter what happens His Word will continue to go forth!
Thank you for your committed support and prayer for our ministry.

God richly bless you, your family and ministry.

Have a nice holiday

Rev. Ermias & Mrs. Mulu Mekuria
E-mail: emcholiye@gmail.com
www.HOANazarene.org
HOA Field Strategy Coordinator,
Church of the Nazarene
